Our perfect day with Quinty

Fact: beautiful things can come out of friendships. Proof: the Quinty by Summum collection, a delightful capsule collection of five upbeat items designed in collaboration with Quinty Trustfull. A sneak peek into how such a collection is created.

Friend of the brand
You will probably have come across her on Summum's channels: friend of the brand Quinty Trustfull. And that's not surprising, considering our friendship has lasted more than half a decade. Quinty not only wears a lot of Summum - 'You can draw me out in Summum!' - but she is also actively involved in the brand from time to time. You might remember the festive Summum end-of-year campaign featuring Quinty, or the beautiful portraits with daughter Moïse. Now we have gone one step further, by designing a fantastic collection together: Quinty by Summum.First, let's go back to the origins of the friendship, because such a long relationship is pretty special. Starting shot for that was a special Summum event the then newly opened chic hotel Waldorf Astoria on Amsterdam's Herengracht, in 2014. Quinty Trustfull - for those who don't know her unexpectedly: former model and Pink Ribbon ambassador Quinty has presented the (almost) daily TV magazine Koffietijd since 2010 - was also there. 'Oh, that was so lovely,' she says. And it was. Besides the collection presentation, there was room for bites, drinks and entertainment, such as a tarot card reader. Not only did it click, Quinty and Summum turned out to be a perfect couple. 'First of all, I like the fact that Summum is a real family business. Family is very important to me. Besides, I come from an entrepreneurial family myself; my parents had a billiard shop. But apart from that, we are such a great match because the clothes are so right and suit me. It's feminine, it's cool, it's colourful and it always falls well - like it was made for me. Summum has a broad collection, so I wear it a lot at coffee time, but also in my daily life. Good jeans, dresses and suits for presentations in the country; it's just right. Honesty is important to me, so I don't wear anything I don't support.'Fair is fair: as a brand, you can only dream of having such an authentic and genuinely enthusiastic ambassador. So what could be more fun than sealing that friendship with a collection designed together? Cheerful, funky, feminine, upbeat. All Summum, all Quinty.

Together at the drawing board
Quinty was involved in the design process from A to Z for the Quinty by Summum collection. How did it go? 'I was immediately enthusiastic, but I also found it difficult: I am quite diverse in terms of style. So then you have to start thinking: what do I want? And also: what do a lot of people need? Because such a collection is obviously not about me, I want everyone to be happy with it. Eventually, together with team Summum, I managed to translate all my wishes and ideas into five garments, including a white T-shirt. I thought that was a very important piece: just find a T-shirt that fits well. I think we succeeded with this one. The shirt is off-white, of a linen-like quality, and it has a dainty boat neck that leaves the cheekbones exposed. You can also wear it off-shoulder. I'm going to live in that later, I already know. Then you start choosing from different fabrics, colours and prints. That funnelling is tricky; I am a Libra, so I am always in doubt. But gradually you see which fabric falls nicely and works for a garment. The end result is really Quinty, from that kaftan dress to the wide trousers and from the colours to the prints and fabrics.'

'I loved this project from start to finish, from creating the collection to the day of the photo shoot... just like a playground. I'm super proud of it and I can't wait to see the collection "in the wild" or on Instagram soon!'

Wonderful day
When the capsule collection soon arrives at Summum HQ, it's time to uncork a bottle, to toast a successful collaboration - or as the start or end of a perfect day. What does such a perfect day look like for Quinty herself? 'I am a spring and summer person, those are my seasons. Everyone seems nicer, sweeter and more sociable then too. So the start of a perfect day is when the weather is nice and the birds are singing outside, and I open the door to the garden and am greeted by the warm air and see the sun slowly rise.'How the day goes on depends on the mood. Going to the beach is fine - and yes, exactly for those kinds of days and moments, that kaftan dress with ikat-like print is fantastic - but reveling in hometown Amsterdam is also an item. 'During the day, I like to shop and grab a terrace somewhere and stay out until late. One of those lovely summer evenings, you know. We also like to invite friends over spontaneously, for a gin-tonic evening, for example, with special gin like Holy Unicorn and Fever Tree tonic. I also enjoy eating together at home. I am a particular fan of shared dining, of small bites like Spanish tapas, Italian antipasti with mozzarella and grilled vegetables or Middle Eastern bites with hummus and baba ganoush. Cosy eating together is part of summer, I think.' The soundtrack to such a perfect day is provided by husband Orlando: 'My husband is my deejay, he provides the musical accompaniment. I get carried away by his vibe, by what he puts on Spotify, from André Hazes senior to Alicia Keys and classical music. Very broad.' But really, really essential for such a day is this: 'Good company and sunburn!'
