From runway to you
Short shorts give the leg free rein, styles that show off the shoulders are the trendsetters and big prints and colour play a leading role.
Short story
There’s plenty of room for bare legs, put in sophisticated shorts with a nice loose cut. The shorts come in different materials for different occasions, from chic to shabby chic. Designers prefer to see them in a tonal look: slightly dressed up with a Hermès trench coat, for example, or in a total denim look with logo print like at Max Mara. The denim shorts are always versatile – they’re making another appearance at Summum this year. Create a casual look with an oversized blouse while freewheeling or wear them with a jacket for an office-proof look. Try a tailored jacket, like the orange Dior version or Summum’s fuchsia version. You can also create a romantic, summery look by adding a high-necked lace blouse à la Michael Kors. Accessorise with flat sandals or trainers, or feminine mules with small heels.

Great necklines
Shoulders are in the spotlight with feminine cut-outs, off the shoulder styles and asymmetrical necklines. Take a look at Chanel: a beautiful asymmetric sequin dress highlighted the sexy collarbone, as did Ulla Johnson, where linen summer broderie dresses with just one sleeve left the shoulder exposed. Summum's black and white tops also create an exciting shoulder line, which goes well with Dior's black strappy dresses and Hermès' athletic soft leather top. Wearing these kinds of tops with super wide trousers creates a whole new silhouette. Don't forget the sexy, old school spaghetti strap: at Michael Kors, they keep a knitted cardigan with drop-down sleeve in place. But perhaps the most exciting development is the glorious comeback of the halter top. The Summum collection features halter tops in different prints, and they can also be worn with wide pleated trousers – and an oversized blazer if it’s chilly.

Big & bold
Big and bold was the credo for designers, who showed that prints are very interesting when blown up and enlarged. Take Hermès, who featured XL shapes on a jumpsuit with a matching top and bag. Chanel mixed things up with butterfly prints on ankle-length silk dresses and Donatella Versace presented a revival of the fashion house's greatest hits, such as the silk pyjama suit in a bold bright green and purple print. Summum presented jumpsuits and cotton suits with prints in clashing colours and Fendi’s dress with diagonal stripes and a woven logo was a real eyecatcher. But whether it’s floral, graphic, psychedelic or retro prints, one thing is for sure: it pops and it fizzes. On everything – and everything goes together. Zero rules. If your wardrobe needs a boost, this season is all about popping!
