Our perfect day with Quinty
Fact: friendships can lead to great things. Proof: the Quinty by Summum collection, a delicious capsule collection of five upbeat items designed in collaboration with Quinty Trustfull. A sneak peek into how a collection is created.
Friend of the brand
You will probably have seen her on Summum's channels: friend of the brand Quinty Trustfull. That’s not surprising, since our friendship goes back more than half a decade. Not only does Quinty wear Summum a lot – ‘I’m Summum through and through!’ – she also actively contributes to the brand from time to time. You may remember the festive Summum end-of-year campaign featuring Quinty or the beautiful portraits featuring her daughter Moïse. Now, we’ve gone a step further by designing a fantastic collection together: Quinty by Summum.
First, let's go back to the origins of our friendship with Quinty, since long relationships are so special. It all began back in 2014, at a special Summum event at the chic Waldorf Astoria hotel on Amsterdam's Herengracht, which had recently opened. For those who don’t know her, Quinty Trustfull is a former model and Pink Ribbon ambassador who has presented the (almost) daily Dutch television magazine Koffietijd since 2010, and she was at the event in 2014. ‘Oh, it was so lovely,' she says. And it was. Besides the collection presentation, there was room for snacks, drinks and entertainment, such as a tarot card reader. Not only did it click, but Quinty and Summum turned out to be a perfect match.
‘First of all, I like the fact that Summum is a real family business. Family is very important to me. I come from a family of entrepreneurs – my parents had a billiard factory. But we are also a good match because the clothes are so right and really suit me. They are feminine, cool, colourful and always fit well – as if they were made for me. Summum has a broad collection, so I often wear their items on Koffietijd and also in my daily life. They have good jeans, dresses and suits for presentations in the country; it just works. Authenticity is important to me, so I don't wear anything I don't endorse.’
Fair is fair: as a brand, having such an authentic and genuinely enthusiastic ambassador is a dream. There would be no better way to seal that friendship than by collaborating on a collection designed together. It’s cheerful, funky, feminine and upbeat... totally Summum, totally Quinty.

At the drawing board
Quinty was involved in the entire design process for the Quinty by Summum collection. How did that go? ‘I was enthusiastic straight away, but it was quite difficult as I have quite a diverse style. So you have to think about what you actually want and what would be useful to lots of people. A collection like this is not just about me – I want everyone to be happy with it. In the end, I worked with the Summum team to translate all my wishes and ideas into five garments, including a white t-shirt. That item was particularly important to me as it’s very difficult to find a t-shirt that actually fits well. I think we pulled it off. The shirt is off-white, in a linen-like fabric and has a graceful boatneck that leaves the collarbones exposed. You could also wear it off the shoulder. I'm going to wear it all the time – I can tell you now. You can choose between all sorts of fabrics, colours and prints. Channelling your ideas can be tricky – I'm a libra, so I'm very indecisive. Along the way, you find out which fabric fits nicely and works for a garment. The end result is very Quinty, from the Kaftan dress to the wide trousers and from the colours to the prints and fabrics.’

‘I loved this project from start to finish, from creating the collection to the photoshoot... it was like a playground. I'm really proud of it and I can't wait to see the collection ‘in the wild’ or on Instagram soon!'
Wonderful day
When the mini-collection arrives at Summum HQ, it's time to uncork a bottle and toast to a successful partnership – or the start or end to a perfect day. What does a perfect day look like for Quinty? ‘I’m a spring and summer person – those are my favourite seasons. Everyone seems to be nicer, sweeter and more sociable. So a perfect day starts with nice weather and the birds singing outside. I open the garden door and I’m greeted by the warm air and I see the sun slowly rise.’
How the day goes on is largely determined by the mood. I enjoy going to the beach – and the kaftan dress with ikat-like print is great for those days and moments – but going out in my home city of Amsterdam is also a contender. During the day, I like to go shopping and sit at a street café somewhere and stay out until late on a lovely summer evening. We also enjoy inviting friends over spontaneously – maybe for a gin and tonic evening, with special gins like Holy Unicorn and Fever Tree tonic. I also love eating at home together. I especially enjoy shared dining – small snacks such as Spanish tapas, Italian antipasti with mozzarella and grilled vegetables or Middle Eastern snacks with hummus and baba ghanoush. Summer involves eating together, I think.’
Quinty’s husband provides the soundtrack for those perfect days: ‘My husband is my DJ – he provides the musical backdrop. I get carried away in his vibe, by what he puts on Spotify, from André Hazes Sr. to Alicia Keys and classical music. Our daily soundtrack is very broad.’ But what’s truly indispensable for a day like this is? 'Good company and sunburn!’
